WHO THIS IS FOR

Who Skor helps

01 / THE WORK

What a firm
actually runs.

The same desks a GP finance team owns. Bring one item or the full stack. We scope to the deadline you name.

Open a desk for the work it covers. A still from rKAID will sit under each one.
01Payables, vendors & expenses

An invoice is not done when it hits the inbox. It is done when the vendor is the right vendor, the amount sits on the right vehicle, due-to / due-from is explicit, and a named person can approve or reject it.

We clear the queue, match vendors, attach the deal or cost center, and leave exceptions visible. Card spend and expense reports stay next to A/P so the same merchant does not live in two stories.

  • Invoice intake, vendor match, due-to / due-from, deal or cost center
  • A/P review queue, approvals, and exception list
  • Expense reports, missing receipts, card review
  • Vendor master and payment-source hygiene — bank vs card kept distinct

Harborlight still of the A/P queue lands here. Drop assets/desks/payables.png and point this figure at it.

02Treasury & cash

Cash is not a single number. Fund operating cash, ManCo operating cash, and a planned call are different facts. We show what is booked, what is unmatched, and what the next 90 days have to cover — fees, opex, and deal funding — without smoothing them into a P&L view.

Capital activity sits on this desk: a planned call with uses of proceeds and drafted LP allocations stays planned until the firm books it.

  • Cash position, booked actuals, and unmatched wires
  • Capital activity — planned calls, uses of proceeds, distributions
  • Forecast against fees, opex, and deal funding
  • ManCo vs fund cash kept on separate ledgers

Harborlight still of cash and the planned call lands here. Drop assets/desks/treasury.png.

03Fund accounting & close

Statements only count if they tie and if draft journals do not pretend to be cash. We run the close through trial balance, income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow, with a recon queue for what does not match the bank.

NAV roll-forward stays a draft until marks are approved. Paid-in does not move on an unapproved journal. That is the difference between a dashboard and a book.

  • Trial balance, income statement, balance sheet, cash flow
  • Journal entries, chart of accounts, recon queue
  • Close calendar, dependencies, and sign-off
  • NAV roll-forward: approved history vs the open quarter

Harborlight still of statements and the close workspace lands here. Drop assets/desks/accounting.png.

04Fees, carry & capital activity

Management fee is a calculation with a basis, a rate, a stub, and a collection lag — not “2% of the deck.” Gross commitments are not the eligible basis. Excluded capital stays out. Step-downs after the investment period have a floor. Offsets carry forward when the LPA says they do.

Carry after side letters is a weighted fact with overrides and MFN review, not a single headline bps. The call that funds fees and deals is a capital event with per-LP allocations, not a calendar reminder.

  • Fee schedule — estimate to actual, IP step-down, floor
  • Eligible basis vs gross; excluded capital left out
  • Carry after side letters; override and MFN review
  • Calls, allocations, distributions, waterfall handoff

Harborlight still of the fee schedule and a planned call lands here. Drop assets/desks/fees.png.

05LPs, roster & investor reporting

The LP strip should answer commitments, paid-in, uncalled, fee, and carry from the same roster the capital accounts use. A zero-commitment observation stays visible and out of the fee basis. Duplicate names get flagged, not silently added.

Quarterly packages and K-1 review are coordination with your preparer, not a second tax opinion. Side letters change fee and carry for the LPs they name — those deltas belong on this desk.

  • Roster, commitments, uncalled, paid-in
  • Capital accounts and LP view — cashflow and KPIs per LP
  • Side letters, overrides, $0-commitment hygiene
  • LP packages; K-1 question log with your tax preparer

Harborlight still of the LP strip (commitments, fee, carry) lands here. Drop assets/desks/lp.png.

06Deals & portfolio metrics

Pipeline and portfolio are one book. A term sheet in the funnel is not invested capital. A closed name has cost, marks, and — when it happens — a write-down with a reason or an exit with proceeds.

Fund metrics (invested, NAV, MOIC, dry powder) read from those positions and from capital accounts, not from a second model. Supporting documents — term sheets, SPAs — attach to the deal so the mark has a file behind it.

  • Deal board: pipeline, closed, follow-on reserve
  • Marks, write-downs with reasons, realizations and proceeds
  • Invested, NAV, MOIC, dry powder from the same book
  • Document intake on term sheets, SPAs, and support

Harborlight still of deals plus an exit or write-down lands here. Drop assets/desks/deals.png.

07Audit, tax & compliance

Audit and tax go faster when the firm’s side is a list: who asked, what was sent, what is still open. We keep the PBC tracker, the workpapers, and the findings log so your auditor is not hunting Slack.

1099s, PFIC notes, and K-1 questions stay coordinated with the preparer you already have. Skor does not issue the opinion. We make sure the source pack is complete and the calendar has an owner.

  • PBC tracker, workpapers, findings log
  • 1099 workspace; PFIC and K-1 coordination
  • Filing calendar and open-question list
  • Auditor and tax preparer stay in their seats

Still of the audit / PBC tracker lands here. Drop assets/desks/audit.png.

08CFO cadence

Cadence is the calendar with owners: what closes this week, what the partnership sees this quarter, what cash has to clear before the next call. Budget vs actual on the ManCo, headcount plan, and GP / fund analysis live here so they are not a side spreadsheet.

Use this desk for one decision — a reserve, a fee holiday, a hiring plan — or for the recurring seat. It is not a default retainer. It is a written list of what happens next.

  • Operating calendar, owners, dependencies
  • Budget vs actual, ManCo burn, headcount plan
  • Cash planning and GP / ManCo / fund analysis
  • One decision, or the recurring seat — scoped either way

Still of the CFO dashboard and calendar lands here. Drop assets/desks/cadence.png.

02 / THE SYSTEM

The work runs
on rKAID.

Skor is the people and the judgment. rKAID is the operating system already built for a VC or PE firm — fund, ManCo, GP, LPs, deals, cash, and close in one place. We use it to do the work. You can keep your existing tools where they are better.

03 / HOW WE WORK

A clear scope.
A useful handoff.

  1. 01

    Tell us the job.

The task, the vehicle, the deadline, and the outcome. One invoice stack is enough to start.

  2. 02

    Agree the work.

Scope, inputs, deliverable, timing, and fee before anyone touches the books.

  3. 03

    Get the handoff.

The work, the open questions, and the next action. Approvals stay yours. Bring us back when needed.

A single desk can be the whole engagement.
A full cadence is a separate conversation, not a default retainer.

04 / THE PERSPECTIVE

Dave ShieldsFOUNDER, SKOR

Built from
the CFO’s seat.

“I’ve sat in the CFO seat at VC and PE firms and built the operating system those seats actually use. I know what the administrator owns, what has to live inside the firm, and what GPs need to see — fees, cash, LPs, deals — without a second set of books.”

QUESTIONS

Before we begin.

Is this for venture, private equity, or both?

Both. The same desks show up in each: fund vehicles, a ManCo, a GP, LPs, deals, fees, cash, and a close. Venture often means more pipeline and a thinner finance seat. PE often means more portfolio marks, holdcos, and distribution mechanics. We scope to the firm in front of us, not to a generic playbook.

Do I need an ongoing CFO engagement?

No. Start with one desk — A/P cleanup, a fee schedule, a reporting pack, a close. Recurring cadence is optional and priced as its own scope. We will not convert a one-week job into a silent retainer.

Can we keep our administrator, auditor, and tax preparer?

Yes. That is the default. Skor owns the work you assign. Fund admin, audit, and tax stay in their seats. We organize your side of those relationships so requests, variances, and K-1 questions have an owner inside the firm.

What is rKAID, and do we have to use it?

rKAID is the operating system Skor already runs: payables, treasury, accounting, fees and carry, LPs, deals, documents, and maker/checker approvals. We prefer to do the work there so numbers have one source. If you need the deliverable in your existing admin portal, Excel, or data room, say so in scope. Using rKAID is not a software purchase by default — it is how we keep the books coherent while we work.

Who approves, and who can change the books?

The firm. Drafts stay drafts until someone you name approves. Capital events stay planned until you book them. We do not forge a confirmation, push to QuickBooks, or send LP notices unless that action is in scope and you sign it.

How do fees work?

Fixed scope for a defined deliverable, or a weekly cadence with a written desk list. Either way: work, timing, inputs, and fee agreed before we start. Gross fund size is not a fee basis. Tell us the task and the deadline and we will price that, not a catalog.

What do you need from us to start?

The vehicle (fund, ManCo, GP), the deadline, and the outcome. Then the minimum inputs for that desk — invoice PDFs, a roster, a bank export, last quarter’s pack, the LPA fee section. We will tell you what is missing before the clock starts. We do not need every historical file on day one.

Can you cover multiple funds and the management company together?

Yes. Fund I–n, an SPV, and the ManCo are separate entities with their own cash, payables, and fee receivable. That separation is the job. We will not blend ManCo opex into a fund statement to make a dashboard look tidy.
